The rat race. The definition by Robert Kiyosaki is basically a rat wheel that you constantly run on split up in pie slices. Each slice can be a paycheck, a liability, or an opportunity.

Getting out of the rat race means that your passive income exceeds your monthly expenses. Passive income is money that you make on your own rather than get by working for someone else. You can obtain passive income by buying and selling stocks, investing in real estate, and starting a business.

The key to your businesses success is to lower the expenses and bring in the profits. In order to do that you have to learn how to use leverage. For example if you bought a $150,000 2-unit property you would not pay $150,000 in cash. You would offer the least amount of out of pocket cash and get the seller to finance the balance, or take out a loan. In business, you would seek out strategic partnerships with other companies that help your company grow and run more efficiently.

Strategic partnerships would be maybe a call center that handles pay per performance cold calling. They would work hard to make a sale so that they make a profit. Such a partner would cost you zero risk because in order for you to pay them any money you would be getting money from the new sale to cover that payment.

The golden question is how do you compete with outsourcing when India and other countries have such cheap labor costs. The answer is you avoid cheap gigs. If you consistantly bid on cheap gigs you are bound to attract cheap clients on a regular basis.

Your costs for web design should not be less than $30 an hour. Unfortunately you can find developers in China for $4 an hour. The benefit to you is that when a company that has the money decides to outsource instead, they usually get what they pay for and end up knocking on your door in the end.

Aim for those larger gigs that pay $2,000 or more for a 10 page static website or $5,000 minimum gigs for web development. By targeting such clients you can do less worrying about your operating costs and focus solely on your clients. You will also lessen demand for cheap developers as they show their true worth. You should avoid being the $5,000 expert with a $1,000 income.

Whn your company is just starting out or suffering from a bad economy your marketing budget may be very small. Don’t worry. You can still get alot of marketing for just $400 per month!

Some internet marketing companies turn away clients with budgets under $5,000 per month or so. There are some wiseguys who pretend to be seo experts that would object to the above, but the information above is a fact. Take this blog for instance. We get alot of traffic from a blog post titled “static content in joomla sidebars”. That is just one example out of the many we can provide. That ranking happened the first day of the post and only because the website already established itself as regularly updated.

RSS feeds can be pulled from many websites including but not limited to news sites. They can be imported and displayed on your website with a simple script. Even if you have a legitimate website with fresh content you can benefit from the use of rss feeds.

Google, Apple, and Microsoft has been sued by a small Indiana company over their file preview features. This goes to show that whether you file a patent, or buy an existing patent there is potential that profitable companies will develop the technology in the future and you can sue them for millions.

There is even a market for such a business. Companies dedicated to buying patents with investor funds, then searching the planet for existing technology that infringes. Then the company that owns the patent will sue for royalties.

Did you hear about the one where Yahoo! forced it’s employees to work unpaid overtime on the failed Panama advertising system then gave them a $50 holiday bonus for their troubles?

This went to court and a settlement was reached. Now plaintiffs are getting between $10,000-$12,000 for their troubles! Now that’s what I call a bonus.

If Yahoo wasn’t so cheap then they could have afforded more phd’s to work on their algorithm so they can steal some of Google’s thunder.

In case you have not noticed, we removed our adsense ads from our blog. With it went the revenue sharing. Fortunately this will not affect anyone because so far there has been nobody interested in co-authoring posts. We may turn it back on in the future if we get contributors. Especially for tutorial authors who write unique content for us.
