Chicago web design? yes. Miracle workers? no.
Monday, July 14th, 2008Occasionally we come across a client who tends to think that a web designer must be local in order to work with them. This may be the way to go, but definately not always. You may end up finding the talent in another State, or even another Country. But you should not shoot down someone if your only concern is getting content for your website to the designer. If it is pictures or text it can be emailed. We have clients who had everything on paper and it needed to be typed up. While that costs a bit more, you will have the same issue if we were right there. Typing up content costs more, period.
These issues are spotlighted on websites like Craigslist, Kijiji, Backpage and other classifieds. They post in all caps that you MUST BE LOCAL OR YOUR EMAIL WILL BE DELETED. Most of those listings end up getting flagged. Nobody likes to read all caps mess, and most designers know the local issue is a non-issue.
The reason for this post is to hopefully shed some light on the fact that things can be done remotely. Especially if you are working with a friendly, outgoing designer or design team with your best interest in mind. Try working with them. You may end up surprising yourself.
